Description

For introductory courses in World Regional Geography.

Written by experts in their respective fields who are active in research, fieldwork, and teaching, this text teaches the character of the world’s people, with a central theme of human development, for an issues-oriented overview of each region. An emphasis on subregions (places within regions) allows instructors to explore specific locales as they teach the themes of the course.

Features

  • An economic development theme allows instructors to present a more conceptual treatment than the traditional descriptive treatment of this topic.
  • Authoritative and substantive coverage. Pulling from an impressive team of 10 authors, each chapter has been authored by an expert in the region to provide instructors and students alike with the utmost accuracy and relevancy.

  • Comprehensive pedagogy includes “Geographer's Craft” thought questions and ten Review Questions at the end of each part.
  • The Instructor's Resource CD-ROM offers the following:
    • High-quality electronic versions of photos and illustrations from the book, customizable Power Point lecture presentations, and the Instructor's Manual and Test Item File in MS Word format.
    • To further guarantee classroom projection quality, all images are manually adjusted for color, brightness, and contrast.
    • For easy reference and identification, all images and resources are organized by chapter number.

New To This Edition

  • Reorganized to better align with the modern classroom, Clawson’s 10th edition follows a briefer, region-by-region approach which provides a more substance-based presentation and allows instructors greater flexibility.  Subregions are integrated into each regional chapter.
  • Chapter 6 on Central Asia offers insight on the issues and populations surrounding these important nations in a completely separate, free-standing format replete with new maps.
  • A new Prologue provides a “work-in-progress” context for the chapter texts and raises salient issues likely to arise in the coming years developed to stimulate class discussion and encourage independent student research.
  • The Instructor’s Resource CD-ROM offers the following:
    • High-quality electronic versions of photos and illustrations from the book, customizable Power Point lecture presentations, and the Instructor’s Manual and Test Item File in MS Word format.
    • To further guarantee classroom projection quality, all images are manually adjusted for color, brightness, and contrast.
    • For easy reference and identification, all images and resources are organized by chapter number.
  • eBook integrated into students’ Companion Website provides cost-savings option by combining text and multimedia learning applications and videos. Students receive access with the purchase of a new book, or may purchase access to just the website at www.mygeoscienceplace.com
  • Increased web-available resources including a chapter on the significance ofgeography to be assigned at the discretion of the instructor as well as further readings and additional review questions.
