Description

For introductory, one-semester courses devoted to digital photography.

An abridged guide modeled after A Short Course in Photography.

This is a new book, modeled after the long-running and widely used Short Course in Photography, which presents the medium entirely in its current, electronic form. In additional to covering the basic techniques of photography, this text covers the impact of computers on this important art form. It includes tips on how to transfer your pictures to a computer to keep them safe and organized, and how to usecomputer software to make your photographs look their best.

Features

Students learn the basic digital photography skills and techniques:

  • MyPhotographyKit: Interact and experience with photographs!

MyPhotographyKit includes practice quizzes, interactive demonstrations of technical concepts enhanced with audio and video, guided tours (CLOSER LOOK FEATURE) of fine art photographs designed to help students improve their composition, an interactive troubleshooting section, and more. www.myphotographykit.com

  • Getting Started Section: If you are brand new to photography, this section will walk you through the first steps of selecting and loading a memory card, setting the camera’s menu options, focusing sharply, adjusting the exposure, and making your first pictures. See pages 4–11.
  • Projects: These projects are designed to help you develop your technical and expressive skills. See, for example, page 130 or 149.
  • Making Better Prints: Includes information about how to adjust your photographs with image-editing software (pages 86-107), select ink and paper (page 111), print them (page 112), and then display them in a mat and frame (pages 114–121).
  • Types of lenses (pages 29-39), cameras (pages 12-13), lighting (pages 128-145), and software for organizing and archiving (pages 122-127).
  • History of Photography: The medium has been used for documentation, persuasion, and personal expression since its invention in the early 19th century. See pages 172–203.
