Description

The Ninth Edition of Physiology of Behavior continues its tradition as the most comprehensive, current, and teachable text for physiological psychology.

This extensive revision of a classic text incorporates the latest discoveries in the rapidly changing fields of neuroscience and physiological psychology and offers the most comprehensive and integrative coverage of research and theory in contemporary behavioral neuroscience.

Thoughtfully organized, it offers scholarly, yet accessible coverage and effectively emphasizes the dynamic interaction between biology and behavior. Collaboration with a talented artist has provided beautiful, accurate, and informative full-color illustrations that further enhance the appeal to both students and professors alike.

Features

  • Clear, well-researched writing continues to be applauded by both students and instructors.
  • Accurate, visually-stunning art results in clearer, more consistent, and more student-friendly illustrations than any other physiology textbook.
  • Case studies describe episodes involving a neurological disorder or an issue in neuroscience.
  • Interim summaries divide major sections into more manageable “learning chunks” which facilitate better learning.
  • Definitions of key terms are printed in the margins throughout the text.
  • Chapter opening vignettes feature real case histories and immediately peak students’ interest.
  • CD-ROM icons in the text guide students to additional learning tools on the CD-ROM.

New To This Edition

  • New neurological disorders chapter features subject matter of high interest to students and professsors.
  • New updated research found throughout the text. Examples: New research on neurogenesis, brain mechanisms of vision, audition, sleep, reproductive behavior, emotion, ingestive behavior, memory, language, schizophrenia, affective disorders, anxiety disorders, autism, attention-deficit disorder, stress disorders, and drug abuse. More than 450 new references have been added.
  • The updated Neuroscience Animations and Student Study Guide CD-ROM (free with each new copy of the text) includes animations, figures, and diagrams, video, terms and definitions, and a self-test.
