Description

The Bittinger System for SuccessMake it Work for You!

Building on its reputation for accurate content and a unified system of instruction, the Tenth Edition of the Bittinger paperback series integrates success-building study tools, innovative pedagogy, and a comprehensive instructional support package with time-tested teaching techniques.

Features

  • Student-oriented Applications encourage students to see and interpret the mathematics that occur every day by using a wide variety of examples and exercises to connect the mathematical content with the real world.
  • Objective Boxes are at the beginning of each section. Objectives are keyed by letter to section subheadings; to the exercises in the exercise sets, Summary, and Review; and to the answers to the Chapter Test and Cumulative Review questions. This correlation enables students to easily find appropriate review material if they need help with a particular exercise or skill.
  • Caution Boxes are found at relevant points throughout the text. These boxes, marked Caution!, warn students of common misconceptions or errors made in performing a particular mathematical operation or skill.
  • Algebraic-Graphical Connections give students a better visual understanding of algebra by connecting it to a graphical representation.
  • Calculator Corners are placed where appropriate throughout the text. This optional feature includes scientific-calculator instruction and practice exercises designed specifically for the basic mathematics student.
  • Diverse Exercises are a strength of all Bittinger texts. The various types of exercises that students will encounter include Discussion and Writing Exercises suitable for individual or group work, Skill Maintenance Exercises that review concepts from other sections, and Synthesis Exercises that require students to combine learning objectives from the current section in addition to preceding text sections.

New To This Edition

  • New Translating/Visualizing for Success feature. More than ever before, this the new edition is focused on getting students to translate and visualize mathematics. This feature presents sets of matching exercises that focus on the most difficult step in the problem-solving process: translating a problem to an equation.
  • New Vocabulary Reinforcement Exercises. Located in the Skill Maintenance portion of an exercise set in each chapter, these exercises provide a continuing review of terms students must know to communicate effectively in the language of mathematics.
  • New Concept Reinforcement Exercises. Found in every section, these true/false exercises increase students' understanding of concepts, rather than merely assessing their skill at memorizing procedures.
  • New Work It Out! Chapter Test Video on CD.  Step-by-step solutions to every exercise in each Chapter Test from the text are presented by the authors to helps students prepare for chapter tests and synthesize content.
  • New Instructor and Adjunct Support Manual. This provides resources and teaching tips designed to help both new and adjunct faculty with course preparation and classroom management.  Resources include chapter reviews, extra practice sheets, conversion guide, video index, audio index, and transparency masters.
