IMAP videos are designed to be used with prospective elementary school teachers enrolled in mathematics courses or in mathematics methods courses, with practicing teachers, or with graduate students. The mathematics content of the clips is early number, place value, and rational number. Some clips show children in Grades 1–5 solving problems; others show problem solving in classrooms. A few clips were designed to illustrate interviewing children to assess their mathematical thinking. The CD is accompanied by a video guide containing suggestions for using each video clip and reflection questions. IMAP videos are available in MyMathLab, or 25 video clips are available on this CD.

The children in these video clips are typical children found in schools all over the county and the strategies they use and the ways they think are common.

• Video Clips-  Each clip provides a glimpse into a child's mathematical thinking--one problem, one misconception, one mathematical triumph at a time. These 25 video clips have been categorized into five important categories:
  • Early Number, Place Value, Rational Numbers, Classroom Lessons, and Interviewing.
• View - from this module you can watch the video clip you selected from the Video Clip Menu. This screen also provides access to:
  • The Clip Info section helps contextualize each clip, providing background information about the classroom, grade level, problem, and the child herself.
  • The live transcript allows you to follow along more closely.
  • Questions to consider before and after viewing help you to get the most from each clip in terms of yoru own learning about student thinking and about good mathematics teaching.
• Applets - These programs will help you refresh your own mathematical understanding.
• Notepad - This feature allows you to take notes as you view clips and consider the questions posed about each clip.
• Resources - The resources include a video guide, background information for some of the clips, important "what if" questions to ask yourself about the clips, specific interview questions for different topics, and selected references.
