Description

Gente, 2e takes a task-based (learn-by-doing) approach to Spanish. Each chapter culminates with a carefully selected task. Students prepare for this task by acquiring the vocabulary, structures, and interactional strategies that they will need to complete the task. Each task has a context in which the students have linguistic and non-linguistic goals with lingusitic and non-linguistic outcomes. By performing these various tasks, students are able to express themselves by doing activities that have relevance in the real-world.

Features

Task-based approach
- Each task is divided into a pre-task, task and post-task activity, which makes it easier for the students to focus on the most important aspects of completing the task.
- Each task requires one final group project at the end of the semester bringing together all of the pieces within the chapter.
- Each task ends with a linguistic focus section where students reflect on their learning of grammar and vocabulary of the lesson, and their overall language acquisition.
Consultorio lingüístico - grammar presentation now located at the end of each chapter.

Grammar reference moved from the Student Activities Manual to the end of chapter in the student text. All grammar explanations are in English in the 2e.

Gramática en contexto - Grammar "reminders" within the chapter contain simple grammar summaries.

Synthesize and correspond to the structures in the Consultorio linguistico and the Student Grammar CD-ROM.

Nuestra gente - Chapter ending culture based and content oriented section of each chapter. Contains 2 parts: Exploraciones and Comparaciones

Exploraciones (Reading and Writing) Development of reading and writing activities using the process approach which allows the students to focus on the important aspects related with each assignment.

Gente que lee - Reading activities that follow the process approach. Also incorporates strategies for reading.
Gente que escribe - Includes a strategic and discourse approach to process writing. Two sections are included: Writing strategies and Beyond the sentence with 2 activities, one individual and one collaborative activity giving the student opportunity for self exploration as well as working with others to complete an assignment.

Comparaciones - This section expands on the culture for the contry or region that is embedded within the chapter. Also targets cultural awareness and comparasons between cultures.

Classroom manual - Textbook acts as the classroom manual and is the essential in-class tool. Other components of the program serve as out-of-class support for the learning process.
