This book continues research from three previous election cycles, beginning in 1998, which examines how political parties and interest groups affect U. S. House and Senate elections.

Contains in-depth case studies. This book provides a look inside some of the most exciting races in the country. It examines how the Republican and Democratic parties fought for control of Congress in the most competitive states and what tactics interest groups used to persuade voters.

The focus on specific senate races and the impact of those elections make this a unique book that provides instructors with analyses of congressional politics and elections. The focus on interest group and campaign financing issues are consistent with the focus in political science courses on these two key aspects of politics.

The collection of unique data on Congressional elections. The research describes in an accessible and readable manner how to follow the different facets of congressional campaigns. It will help students of American politics to appreciate the varied forms of campaign communications and how to understand them.
