New To This Edition

A new section, entitled “Understanding Cause and Effect” has been added to Chapter 2 to help students correct the (all too common) belief that causation does not occur human affairs and to provide them with a strategy for conducting cause and effect analyses effectively.
Chapter 4 has been expanded to cover critical listening and critical viewing, as well as critical reading, to reflect the changes in the acquisition of information that have accompanied the advent of the Internet.
The section entitled “Avoiding Plagiarism” in Chapter 8 has been expanded to better address this challenging issue.
